And yes, that's it, no change of mission type in the between. The story is okayish "save the world by collecting these mcguffin" type of story, and not to mention, the entire mission structure could be summarized as go to place -> talk to a person to go to a mini dungeon to get a tablet or parchment -> return to that person and then get the location of the main dungeon containing the staff pieces -> go to that main dungeon (possibly solve a riddle) and get the piece -> Repeat and Repeat and Repeat. Whenever I was lost, just using the map gave me a good idea of where i was, and the dark view/early sound effects of the dungeon corridors make those parts even more ominous and even scary at moments. That is what half of it makes the game so interesting, so much so, even during its frustrating moments, you have enough resources to try again and again and surpass them.Īnother great thing about this game is that its map system is more comprehensible than its contemporaries like Ultima, Doom, and King's Field. If you wish, you can go hard-on and kill them by swinging your weapon, or you can curse them, burn them with fire, stone them with medusa's gaze, go invisible/levitate them or be an absolute chad, drink some resist potions and walk away from them without even paying any attention to them.

The Elder Scrolls Arena has some issues (well it is a bethesda game, so of course) but it kind of manages to work around that by providing absolute freedom in case of how you approach enemies.
